Documentary Assignment: Life List
Some people have bucket lists of things they want to do before they die. I call mine my life list because there are some things I need to do in order to feel like I've lived my life well. Although I'd love to visit the Louvre or go sky diving, most of the things on my life list are what most people would call ordinary. Things like buying a hot dog from a hot dog vendor in New York, ride in a taxi, catch fireflies in a jar, and shoot a hand gun. The later is the inspiration for the next set of photos. I've had the opportunity to shoot a handgun before, but unfortunately the person I went with only had one handgun and it got jammed before I had a chance to try it. However, a couple of weeks ago a friend of my husbands invited us to go shooting with him, and guess what... he brought a handgun.
Check.

Girls and Boys
Friday night I was telling Erik that I kind of miss doing the whole girls night thing. Staying up late, watching chick flicks, doing each others hair and nails, and, of course, eating junk food. So, Erik decided we'd have a girls night together:) We watched funny movies and did each others nails (no nail polish for Erik, but he did let me file them:) and we even did each others hair. We looked pretty awesome by the time we were done. It was so much fun!
On Saturday we went the opposite direction. Erik's friend Adam invited us to go shooting with him and I just happen to have "shooting a handgun" on my Life List. It was so fun!
This is Adam, he was so nice to invite us to go. We had so much fun and he said we could go again sometime too, so I'm already excited for that.
I didn't even pay attention to if I was hitting any of the targets, it was just fun to shoot. The guys said I did hit some though, so that was pretty cool.
Erik had never shot a handgun before either. He caught on really quick, he was doing way good.
And here are some of our poor targets... pretty darn cool, hu? :)

Marcus Bleasdale
My last photography assignment was to research a photographer that we were assigned and create an image that was in their style. My photographer was Marcus Bleasdale. He's most famous for his documentary photography on world issues like the conflict in the Republic of Congo. I didn't feel like I would be able to mimic those photos so I found another series he did that had a lot of outdoor photos of some interesting places. Here are a couple of his photos.
Here are some of mine:
Erik and I laughed pretty hard when we first saw "El Bambi Cafe" and so I wanted to take a picture of it, but then it also turned out to be a pretty awesome subject-matter for this assignment. It was a lot of fun:)

My Beautiful Mother
My last assignment for my photography class was to take portraits of someone inside using natural light as your main light-source (open windows or doors). Since we were in Hurricane for the weekend I went to Curves to take advantage of the great window light and got to take some really beautiful pictures of my Mom. My teacher liked them a lot and thought my Mom was such a great model! I just love them:)
Stranger Danger!
I got to my class on Tuesday earlier this week and learned that we would be taking a one hour break from class to walk around campus and take pictures of strangers. The point of it was to get us out of our comfort zone and get use to talking to people we don't know. Here are a few of them.

Anyway, it turned out to be pretty fun and terribly scary. Most people were pretty cool... I found out girls are more likely to say no than boys (and if they say yes most of them looked really uncomfortable in the pictures). And, old guys were more likely to swear at me and keep walking:) Fun stuff.
